(Ron Tonkin Field - Hillsboro, OR) - Hillsboro might personally hold the bus door open for Canadians 1B Jake Brodt who was once again a force on Sunday going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to help catapult Vancouver to a third straight victory over the Hops to take the rubber match of a five-game series out at Ron Tonkin Field. The win keeps Vancouver (8-5) in a share of top spot in the North Division heading into the All-Star Break.
Vancouver pounded out 12 hits in the victory that moved the Canadians three games above .500 (27-24) for the first time this season and also gave them the ten-game season series over Hillsboro (6-4). The C's got multi-hit games from SS Otto Lopez (3-for-4), 3B Bryan Lizardo (2-for-4), 1B Jake Brodt (2-for-4) and LF McGregory Contreras (2-for-4). Brodt hit his 7th double of the series in the top of the 6th inning scoring both Lopez (single) and Lizardo (single) to give the Canadians a 5-4 lead which proved to be the winning hit. Contreras had an RBI double in the top of the 6th inning to go along with a bases-clearing triple in the top of the 2nd inning that got the C's on the board.
On the mound, LHP Elio Silva was strong over his five innings of work allowing two hits and four runs with just two of those runs as an Otto Lopez error put 3B Joey Rose on base before he later scored on a three-run home run from RF Will Gorman.
Four Canadians relievers combined to shut the door the rest of the way as North Vancouver RHP Will McAffer (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3SO) struck out the side in the bottom of the 6th before RHP Troy Miller (1.0IP), RHP Fitz Stadler (1.0IP) and RHP Connor Law (1.0IP, Sv.) came in to seal the victory with Law grabbing his 3rd save of the season.
The win does a lot for Vancouver as it keeps them atop the North Division (8-5, .615), gives them the season series vs. Hillsboro (6-games-to-4) and improves them to 3-2 (.600) for this current 13-day, 10-game road trip that resumes on Thursday, August 9th at 6:35pm in Salem-Keizer. All five games can be heard live at www.canadiansbaseball.com with the series finale also available on TSN1040 Sports Radio.
A majority of Canadians players will now head back to Vancouver, B.C. to enjoy a three-day break while Griffin Conine, Tanner Kirwer, Cobi Johnson and the Canadians staff led by manager Dallas McPherson will depart from Portland, OR on Monday heading to Grand Junction, CO for the 2018 NWL vs. PIO All-Star Game to be played on Tuesday, August 7th.
Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday, August 14th at 7:05pm as the C's welcome North Division rivals Tri-City (Aug 14-16) and Spokane (Aug 17-19) with tickets available at www.canadiansbaseball.com, by calling 604.872.5232, or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
