
Zavolas Fends off Hawks, 5-3

Everett, WA - The AquaSox won the fourth game of the five-game series against the Boise Hawks on Saturday night in front of 5,025 fans. With the win, the AquaSox not only won the series but also moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Northwest League North Division.
The AquaSox, who came off an 11-hit game last night, picked up right where they left off. Ryan Ramiz knocked a lead-off triple to the right field corner, immediately getting the Frogs in scoring position. Bobby Honeyman then batted Ramiz home on a soft ground out to Hawks third baseman Danny Edgeworth, his first of two RBI Saturday. Just like that, the AquaSox were up on the Hawks 1-0.
The Frogs tacked on another run in the second, as Nick Rodriguez hit his fifth home run of the season over the right field wall, 2-0. Rodriguez has been hot as of late, logging 7 hits in his last 20 at-bats. His season batting average is now at .300 and is tied for the most home runs on the team with Jansiel Rivera.
Willie MacIver, who has been a thorn in the AquaSox side all season long, brought home Luke Morgan to bring the Hawks within one in the fourth inning. Daniel Jipping then stepped up to the plate with MacIver on base and launched a two-run go-ahead blast to center field, 3-2 Hawks.
Everett wouldn't take long to answer, however, as they scored an equalizing run in the bottom of the fourth. Rivera doubled to deep left field, scoring Honeyman, who singled earlier in the inning, from first base, 3-3.
On a full count, with runners on first and second in the fifth inning, Honeyman hit his second of three hits Saturday night, scoring Charlie McConnell. Ramiz attempted to score from first however, he was called out at home on the play, but the AquaSox were still able to regain the lead, 4-3. Honeyman, who has had a stellar past few weeks, is leading the Northwest League in batting average with .394.
Noah Zavolas, who entered the game in the top of the fifth inning, had an outstanding outing. The Harvard product pitched three scoreless innings in a scenario with little room for error. Zavolas finished with 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 5 SO. He would exit the contest after the seventh inning, as Ben Onyshko took his place.
Stowers scored in the bottom of the eighth inning on a double steal, giving Onyshko some wiggle room that he would not need Onyshko pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning, logging his first save of the season. The AquaSox would win, 5-3.
Sunday afternoon the Everett AquaSox will play the final game of the series against the Boise Hawks at 4:05 PM before Jheyson Caraballo, Connor Kopach, Michael Plassmeyer and Stowers head to Grand Junction, Colorado for the Northwest League vs. Pioneer Baseball League All-Star Game. Tomorrow is also the 10th Annual Car Show presented by JB Sandblasters. There will additionally be a $20 Mystery Ball Raffle benefiting the AquaSox Community Fund while supplies last on the concourse and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive an official 2018 Everett AquaSox Team Poster. Last but not least, it's our annual All-You-Can-Drink Root Beer Float Day with Root Beer Floats being only $6 with all proceeds benefiting the AquaSox Community Fund! After the game fans can get an autograph from some of their favorite Frogs as there will be a Postgame Autograph Session.
