C's can't avoid big innings; fall 10-4 to Tri-City on Tuesday

(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - A five-run outburst off Canadians RHP Josh Winckowski in the bottom of the 2nd inning was all Tri-City needed to send Vancouver to a third consecutive loss as the Dust Devils moved a game clear of the C's in the North Division standings after a 10-4 victory on Tuesday night.
Winckowski (2-3) just never looked comfortable in his sixth outing of the season as he allowed five hits and three walks over his 1 2/3 innings as Tri-City chased him in the bottom of the 2nd scoring five in the frame. The short stint for right-hander was surprising as he pitched six innings of one-run baseball in his last outing at Boise (7/11). He gave way to RHP Justin Watts who was spectacular over his 3 2/3 innings allowing just one run on two hits, striking out three.
RHP Will McAffer went 2/3 innings of work getting Watts out of a jam in the 6th before giving way to RHP Connor Law. The native of Illinois struggled as he allowed four runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, just moments after the Canadians scored three to make it a 6-4 game. Law simply got hit around allowing four runs on four consecutive hits including an RBI single to DH Luis Asuncion that helped Tri-City pull away for their second straight victory over Vancouver in this series.
The Canadians offensively were led by 1B Bryan Lizardo who hit a two-run home run, his 3rd of the season to bring Vancouver back into the game in the top of the 7th inning. CF Brandon Polizzi played inspired baseball going 2-for-4 as did 3B Jesus Severino.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 15-17, while Tri-City improves to 16-16. The Canadians got some help on the out-of-town scoreboard as Spokane got their first road win of the summer (1-12) over Everett meaning Vancouver remains two games back of Everett, and one back of Tri-City with six games remaining in the first half.
Vancouver sends LHP Elio Silva (2-1, 3.91) to the mound in hopes of salvaging a game in this three-game road series at Tri-City. The Canadians are currently 2-5 on their current eight-game road trip. First pitch on Wednesday, July 18th from Gesa Stadium is set for 7:15pm.
