Round Rock Express News Release
Round Rock, TX - Texas Rangers outfielders Nelson Cruz and Josh Hamilton completed 3-game minor league rehab assignments at Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.
Both Cruz and Hamilton are expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Monday, when the Rangers open a 3-game series with the Chicago White Sox at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Cruz was 1-for-3 with his 3rd homer in as many games and 2 walks, one intentional, while playing all 9 innings in right field in the Express' 15-10 loss to Colorado Springs at Dell Diamond on Sunday afternoon. Hamilton was hitless in 4 at bats with an intentional walk and 2 strikeouts as Round Rock's DH today.
For his 3 starts in right for Round Rock, Cruz was 5-for-11 with 3 homers, 4 RBI, and 2 walks. Overall, Cruz is 7-for-22 with one double, 4 homers, 5 RBI, and 3 walks in 6 minor league games, 4 in right and 2 as the DH, at Double-A Frisco and Round Rock.
Hamilton was 2-for-11 with a double, homer, 3 RBI, and 2 walks in 3 games as the Express' DH. He is 4-for-18 with one double, 2 homers, 6 RBI, and 3 walks in 5 games, all as a DH, on rehab assignment at Frisco and Round Rock.
Cruz was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 7 (retroactive to May 4) with a strained right quadriceps muscle. He is hitting .219 with 7 homers and 18 RBI in 30 games with the Rangers this season.
Hamilton has been on the disabled list since sustaining a non-displaced hairline fracture of his right humerus bone while sliding at home plate on April 12 at Detroit. He was batting .333 with seven RBI in 11 games at the time of his injury and had hit safely in his last 8 games with the Rangers.
