Sacramento Takes 16 Inning Marathon

Sacramento, Calif. - Josh Donaldson hit a game-tying home run in the 13th inning and Eric Sogard ended the game with a two-out RBI base hit in the 16th inning leading the Sacramento River Cats (27-16) to a 3-2 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (19-23) in a five-hour and four-minute game before 13,039 Saturday night at Raley Field.

Reliever Benjamin Hornbeck (1-0) took the relief win for Sacramento while Andy Van Hekken (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing the winning run.

Sacramento starter Yadel Marti allowed one unearned run and two hits over eight innings. RedHawks starter Sergio Perez allowed one run and eight hits over five and two-thirds innings. The RedHawks used six relievers in the game.

The River Cats opened the scoring in the second inning as Anthony Recker belted a solo home run to left field for a 1-0 score.

Oklahoma City tied the game with an unearned run in the seventh inning. After a dropped foul ball for an error, Brandon Barnes was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a two-out double from Robinson Cancel for a 1-1 score. The double extended Cancel's hitting streak to a RedHawks-best 12 games.

The game remained tied until the 13th inning. J.B. Shuck singled with one out, moved to second on a walk of Tommy Manzella, moved to third on a walk of Drew Locke and scored on a bases loaded walk by Brandon Barnes for a 2-1 lead.

Sacramento was down to their final out in the bottom of the inning when Josh Donaldson hit a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence off Fernando Abad for a 2-2 tie.

The game remained tied until the 16th inning. Sacramento leadoff hitter Shane Peterson walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a two-out single to right field to end the game 3-2.
