SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-- The Lake Erie Crushers rallied from a 4-0 deficit on Friday night at Boomers Stadium, scoring five times in the final three innings of the contest to take the series opener, 5-4, over the Schaumburg Boomers.

The win for the Crushers (3-4) was their second straight win in series opener, and snapped a brief two-game slide, while the loss for the Boomers (5-3), snapped a four-game winning streak against the Crushers at home.

For the second night in a row, the Crushers had to battle from behind to take the lead, and did most of their damage in the seventh inning. They scored four times in seventh on Thursday, and scored three times to get on the board on Friday.

Big two-out hits paced the Boomers in the early goings, as they scored all four of their runs with two outs over the first three innings of the games.

Alexi Colon drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the second on a two-out RBI single. In the third, the Boomers belted four consecutive two out singles to score three more times to take a 4-0 lead. Jordan Dean started that string of singles and Justin Vasquez followed, and Ryan Tutleland singled to score Dean. On the next play, Mark Nelson singled to right, scoring a pair of runs. The second run scored on a close play at the plate, which prompted an argument from Manager Chris Mongiardo, and he was ejected for the first time this season.

From that point forward, the Crushers allowed just three more hits, and they chipped away at the lead with three in the seventh to battle back. Emmanuel Quiles started the rally with a one out walk, and made his way to second on Justin Cureton's single. Adam Ford walked to load the bases, and Trevor Stevens drove in Lake Erie's first run of the game on a RBI single to right. Jose Barraza reached on a fielder's choice to score Cureton, and a wild pitch scored Ford.

In the eighth, the Crushers took advantage of a huge two-out error to take the lead. Quiles and Cureton stroked back-to-back two out singles, bringing Ford to the plate. Ford hit a fly ball to right, which Vasquez dropped and the error allowed both Quiles and Cureton to score.

Peter Gehle (1-0) scored the victory for the Crushers in a resilient performance. After allowing the two-run single in the fourth, Gehle allowed just two hits through the next four innings. He went seven innings, allowed four runs on eight hits and fanned a pair to get the win. Trevor Longfellow (3) tossed a scoreless ninth inning to grab the save.

Every Crusher reached safely in the contest, and Cureton led the way. He was the only Crusher to hit safely multiple times, going 3-for-4 with a trio of singles, giving him five hits in his last two games.

The Crushers will continue their three-game series with the Schaumburg Boomers at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg, Ill., on Saturday night. The Crushers have not announced their starter, while the Boomers will throw left-hander Anthony Gomez (0-1, 3.60). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
