Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

WUERFEL PARK Casey Delgado reminded everyone why he was a Frontier League All-Star a summer ago with a dominating performance on Friday. The second year Beach Bum struck out six and held the Windy City Thunderbolts to one run over 6.2 innings in helping Traverse City to a 7-5 home opening win.

Delgado, who lost his season debut last weekend despite allowing only one earned run, was effective all night. He was helped offensively by a balanced line-up that took advantage of chances when presented.

Jose Vargas has two hits and drove in a run. Sam Bumpers delivered a clutch two-out RBI double. Greg Harisis and Alex Tomasovich each scored two runs.

The Beach Bums took an early lead in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Windy City starter Austin Wright walked three in the first inning and wasn't helped by an infield error. Sacrifice flyouts by Yazy Arbelo and Reggie Lawson put the Beach Bums out in front 2-0.

Windy City countered in the second on a two-out RBI triple by Zach Stoner and it was 2-1. It remained that way until the fourth when Bumpers laced a two-out RBI double to the right field corner making the score 3-1.

The Beach Bums picked up another in the fifth when Tomasovich scored from third base on a ground ball double play.

Then in the sixth, the Beach Bums pulled away. Jake Rhodes, Tomasovich and Vargas each delivered RBI singles and Traverse City was up 7-1.

Still, the game wouldn't end without a little nail biting as Windy City clawed back in the ninth. The first four hitters for Windy City reached and scored cutting the lead to 7-5. With one out, a runner at second and the tying run at the plate, Andrew Brockett settled down to get a pop up and strikeout to end the game and notch his second save of the season. Brockett had come on in relief after the first four batters of the inning to stop the comeback.

Brockett finished off what Delgado had started. Windy City didn't have a lead off batter reach during Degado's outing and only twice had runners reach scoring position.

The Beach Bums record improves to 3-4 with the win.
