Lake Erie Crushers News Release
CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers fell 5-4 to the Windy City ThunderBolts Monday night as a bases-loaded walk to Gilberto Mejia in the bottom of the 10th gave Windy City the victory.
The Crushers kicked off the scoring in the top of the second, touching up Dustin Williams for two runs. Wayne Bond and Casey McGrew posted singles to lead off the inning before an Arden McWilliams groundout allowed Bond to scamper home. Jodam Rivera followed with a line-drive single to right to bring McGrew in and give Lake Erie a 2-0 lead.
Windy City scored in the third when Gilberto Mejia brought Ryne White home with a single just past the outstretched glove of Drew Saylor to cut the Crusher lead in half. However, Lake Erie would restore its two-run lead in the fifth when a Saylor single fell just in front of Ryan Basham and plated Rivera to push the Lake Erie advantage to 3-1.
Crushers left fielder Wayne Bond led off the sixth with a solo home run, his fourth of the season, to extend the lead to 4-1.
But the home nine would answer with two runs of their own in the sixth, With Ryan Basham on first after a single, Jeremy Hamilton drove a Matt Smith fastball deep over the right-field fence to bring the ThunderBolts back with one at 4-3. Windy City loaded the bases against Ronnie Morales in the ensuing frame, but Morales got Brandon Anderson to bounce into an inning-ending double play and the Crushers held their one run lead.
However, the ThunderBolts would even things in the bottom of the ninth against J.J. Pacella as Ryan Basham singled with two outs to score Nick Kuroczko, who had doubled, to even the score at 4 apiece.
Pacella walked Pete Paris Ryne White and Kuroczko to set up the bases-loaded walk to Mejia that won the game.
