Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Kyle Palmeri and Rick Schofield scored 44 seconds apart in the third period and Timo Pielmeier made 29 saves as the Syracuse Crunch defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-1 at Webster Bank Arena on Monday afternoon. Syracuse improves to 30-36-3-4. The Sound Tigers snap their seven-game point streak and fall to 25-37-4-7.

The Crunch took a 1-0 lead courtesy of their power play. After David Ullstrom's goaltender interference call nixed a Sound Tigers power play, Syracuse had an abbreviated man-advantage where Maxime Macenauer knocked a rebound past Mikko Koskinen to give Syracuse a one-goal lead 4:20 into the first period.

The Sound Tigers had opportunities to tie the score in the second period with two chances on the power play, but were unable to score once in the game with the man-advantage after netting seven power-play goals over the previous two games. Dylan Reese tied the score 5:44 into the third period on a 4-on-4. Jeremy Colliton skated into the Syracuse zone and waited for Reese who slid into the slot and took the feed from Colliton, firing the puck over Pielmeier's right shoulder to even the score 1-1. However, Syracuse pulled away for good when Kyle Palmeri and Rick Schofield scored 44 seconds apart at 13:12 and 13:56 of the third period, and Mark Mitera added an empty netter as the Crunch came away with a 4-1 win.

Timo Pielmeier earned the victory for Syracuse with 29 saves. Mikko Koskinen took the loss, stopping 29 of 32 shots.

The Sound Tigers return to action Wednesday night when they make their final trip of the season to Portland to face the Pirates at 6:30 p.m.
