Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons are proud to announce that Jake Taylor has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Oklahoma City community during the 2010-11 season.

Taylor, a 6-4, 225-pounder from Rochester, Minn. has played in 61 games for the Barons this season, recording five assists and serving 128 penalty minutes. The seven-year pro has appeared in 377 games during his career, picking up 47 points (5-42-47) while serving 842 penalty minutes.

When volunteers are asked for to attend community events, Jake's hand is always the first to go up. When an event comes in at the last minute, the Barons know that they can count on Jake to fill in at a moment's notice. Doesn't matter the type of activity: reading, physical activity or hospital visits, Jake was involved in all types of community events in Oklahoma City this season.

Taylor is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2010-11 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.

"Jake works as a leader both on and off the ice. His selfless attitude and recognition of the need for positive role models in the community have made him an excellent choice to be giving this award," said Barons general manager Bill Scott. "Jake has found a way throughout his career to effortlessly balance hockey, family and community outreach. He has made appearances at schools, hospitals and the YMCA this year along with weekly radio interviews promoting the team and giving Oklahomans insight into the game of hockey. We are very proud to have a player like Jake on our team and are thrilled that he has been named the Man of the Year."

Taylor and his Barons teammates are in the middle of a battle for playoff positioning in the West Division. The Barons have five games left to play and are tied with two other teams for the fourth and final playoff spot in the AHL's West Division.

Oklahoma City closes out their regular season home schedule starting Friday against the Rockford IceHogs, AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks. Saturday Barons host the Texas Stars, AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Faceoff for both games is 7:05 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. The games can be heard on the Barons flagship station, 96.1 KXY.
