Mat Clark Named Syracuse Crunch IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year

Syracuse, NY (March 28, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they have named defenseman Mat Clark the club's IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year.

Clark, 20, has been one of the most active members of the Syracuse Crunch when it comes to giving back to the Central New York community. Clark has donated an extraordinary amount of his time to attending numerous youth hockey practices, hospital visits, charitable events and autograph signings.

In addition to attending youth hockey practices and autograph signings in which he interacted with fans and signed autographs, Clark was one of three Crunch players that went to Dick's Sporting Goods and picked out items to donate to Toys for Tots on December 14, 2010. He was also among a number Crunch players that taped their sticks in pink tape to support the club's 'Pink in the Rink' night to help fight breast cancer on October 30, 2010.

The native of Wheat Ridge, Colorado also traveled to Feats of Clay on February 23, where he decorated and painted ceramic plates with wish kids from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The plates that he and other Crunch players designed were later auctioned off to raise money for Make-A-Wish. In addition, Clark made a trip to Golisano Children's Hospital on March 9, where he brightened the day of many children by meeting them and signing autographs. In all, Clark has done over 25 player appearances during the 2010-11 season.

Clark is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2010-11 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
