
Crosscutters Shut Out Vermont 2-0

Williamsport, Pa. - The Williamsport Crosscutters picked up their third shutout of the season and their first nine-inning shutout in a 2-0 heart-stopper over the Vermont Lake Monsters on Friday night. Williamsport won its second consecutive series two games to one and now has won four of its last five overall.
Hunter Hearn dazzled the crowd with his throwing arm by firing out consecutive runners at home in the seventh and eighth innings with long lasers from right field.
Logan O'Hoppe socked his third home run of the season and his second in the three-game series. Rudy Rott blasted an RBI double off the wall in left-center in the second inning plating O'Hoppe for his first extra-base hit. O'Hoppe scored both Cutters runs.
Leonel Aponte recorded his second consecutive start of four-innings with shutout baseball. He allowed just two singles and issued no walks.
Rafael Carvajal (1-2) picked up his first win with five strikeouts in three strong innings. And Omar Maldonado worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth with a strikeout and a fly out to snag his second save this week.
Corbin Williams swiped two more bases and leads the league with 16. The Philadelphia area native has eight steals in the last five games.
Nicolas Torres singled in the first to extended his hitting streak to six games. He has one 9-for-22 through that stretch.
Williamsport hits the road for three straight at the Aberdeen IronBirds Saturday through Monday. RHP Brett Schulze will start for the Cutters in the series opener on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
