Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA - Inland Empire 66ers 1st baseman C.J. Cron leads a group of three members of the High A Halo's roster to be named post season all stars by the California League. Cron was named both the 1st baseman for the post season All-Star team and the league's Rookie of the Year. Joining him are Taylor Lindsey, 2nd baseman on the post season All-Star team, and Greg Spence who was named Athletic Trainer of the Year.
"It's exciting to hear," said Inland Empire 66ers manager Bill Haselman upon hearing of Cron's Rookie of the Year Award win. "He's the best power hitter in the league. Driving in runs is the name of the game and Cron delivered all year long."
C.J. Cron is the fourth player in Inland Empire 66ers franchise history to be named League Rookie of the Year. One of the prior winners was Chin-Feng Chen in 1999, which is fitting since Cron tied Chen for the team's single season RBI record this year with 123 as of Tuesday. The Rookie of the Year award is selected from players for whom this season was their first full year in professional baseball. Cron is also the first 1st baseman of Inland Empire's to be named to the post season All Star team since Brian LaHair in 2005, whom Cron passed earlier this year in the franchise single season RBI record books.
Taylor Lindsey was named 2nd baseman of the year by the California League after spending most of the season among the league leaders in overall hits. "Taylor is ready to play every day," said Haselman of Lindsey. "He's always in a good mood, eager to play, and talent wise the sky is the limit for him."
Greg Spence was named California League Athletic Trainer of the Year for 2012. "There is no one else I'd rather work with," said Haselman of Spence. "He's the consummate professional." Based off team records Spence appears to be the first ever Inland Empire athletic trainer to earn California League recognition for his work.
Inland Empire fans have one final series to celebrate their California League All-Stars and their teammates at San Manuel Stadium during the regular season. Inland Empire is hosting the Lancaster JetHawks this week in a series that will conclude Thursday, August 30th with a Thirsty Thursday presented by Hanger 24. Tickets can be purchased at the 66ers box office and additional promotional information is available online at www.66ers.com.
