Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA -- The 66ers (63-70, 32-31) defeated the High Desert Mavericks (80-53, 43-20) 2-1 thanks to a dominant start by Andrew Smith and a go-ahead solo homerun in the seventh inning by C.J. Cron which ties the 66ers single season RBI record.
With the score tied at 1-1 and Cron leading of the 7th Cron hit a moon shot onto home run hill in left to give the Sixers the lead.
With the RBI Cron ties the single season RBI mark at 123 for Inland Empire set by Chin Feng Chen in 1999. Cron is now one shy of the Angels all-time minor league record in the category set by Todd Green while playing for Lake Elsinore in 1994.
A Sacrifice fly by Ryan Jones scoring Jean Almanzar got the first run on the board for the 66ers before High Desert matched with a home run by Julio Morban.
Andrew Smith got the victory allowing the one run in seven innings while sriking out six. Eric Cendejas collected his fifth save with a perfect ninth.
Inland Empires tragic number currently sits at five games with seven remaining, meaning any combination of Sixers losses or Lake Elsinoe wins totaling five will eliminate them from playoff contention.
Inland Empire will wrap up their final home stand of the season with a three game series against the Lancaster JetHawks beginning Tuesday night at San Manuel Stadium. Aaron Meade (1-1, 8.31) will take the hill for IE opposite David Martinez (8-5, 4.58) and the JetHawks.
Tune in to Sam Farber and Shane Downey for all the action on AM 1050 and 66ers.com beginning at 6:55 with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians pregame show.
