Crenshaw Dazzles, Saints Pound out 14 Hits, Win 15th Series with 8-1 Victory

SIOUX FALLS, SD (July 17, 2015) - The St. Paul Saints entered the night knowing they had already continued their string of not losing a series with wins in the first two of a four game set, but that's not good enough for this season's team. Dustin Crenshaw went 8.0 strong, the Saints pounded out 14 hits and rolled to an 8-1 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Friday night at Sioux Falls Stadium. With the win they have now won 15 of the 16 series they have played, with a split of one series, and improved to 41-12 on the season.

The Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Alonzo Harris reached on a pop up that shortstop Vickash Ramjit tried to catch over the shoulder, but it hit his glove and fell to the ground and was ruled an error. He stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice by Willie Argo. Vinny DiFazio's RBI single gave the Saints the lead.

In the bottom of the inning Crenshaw gave up his lone run of the evening. Chris Grayson led off with a double to right, was sacrificed to third and scored on an RBI single by David Bergin to tie the game at one.

Crenshaw was stellar the rest of the way. The biggest trouble he got into came in the seventh when Brian Humphries and RJ Perucki had back-to-back singles to start the inning. Tyler Shover tried to sacrifice them over, but he popped his bunt up to third baseman Ryan Lashley. Lashley then fired to second to try and double up Humphries. The throw was late, but Humphries, noticing no one was covering third, tried to take off for third, but Anthony Phillips tagged him out. Crenshaw went 8.0 innings allowing one run on seven hits while striking out one. He improved to 8-1 and lowered his league leading ERA to 1.81.

The Saints got him the run support he needed in the fifth. Canaries starter Jeremy Strawn walked Vinny DiFazio and Ian Gac with two outs. Angelo Songco then clubbed a three-run homer to right, his eighth of the season, to give the Saints a 4-1 lead. Songco leads the league with 45 RBI.

In the eighth the Saints made it 5-1 when Harris doubled and scored on a Willie Argo RBI single.

The Saints added three insurance runs in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Ryan Lashley, an RBI single from Harris and an error by the first baseman Bergin.

Eight of the nine Saints collected a hit and Mike Kvanicka went 4-5 with a run scored.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the four game series on Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Robert Coe (4-2, 3.35) against Canaries RHP Tyler Pearson (2-1, 4.45). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
