Crawdads Weekly - 'Dads Battle Braves in Three-Game Series

HICKORY, NC - After taking three of four games from the Savannah Sand Gnats over the weekend, the Crawdads open a three-game series against the Southern Division Second Half leading Rome Braves tonight at L.P. Frans Stadium. Once they wrap up the series with the Braves, Hickory hits the road for a four-game set in West Virginia, before returning for the final three regular season home games from Tues., Aug. 28 - Thurs., Aug. 30.
The Crawdads are vying for a 2012 posteason appearance in a tight Northern Division race. Hickory is currently 31-25 in the second half, tied for 2nd place with the West Virginia Power, just 1.5 games behind the 1st-place Hagerstown Suns in the Northern Division Second Half Standings. The 'Dads are 67-58 overall in 2012, good for 3rd in the overall standings in the Northern Division .

Battle of the Bags Cornhole Tournament and Thirsty Thursday on Aug. 30 with a $200 Grand Prize!
The Crawdads and Brahma Graphx are teaming up to present the second-annual Battle of the Bags Cornhole Tournament before the final regular season home game on Thurs., Aug. 30! The tournament will start at 6 p.m., before the 'Dads take on the Lexington Legends at 7 p.m. for Thirsty Thursday, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.
The Battle of the Bags Grand Prize this year is $200 of cold, hard cash for the 1st-place team! The 2nd-place team will win a custom-made Cornhole set, courtesy of Brahma Graphx, with the 3rd-place team winning $30.
Registration includes a FREE ticket to the game and a FREE t-shirt! Teams of two can pre-register right now for only $30, and day-of registration will also be available for $35 .

-Hickory continues to hit the long ball, running their season total to 107, good for 3rd in the league.
-The Crawdads are 3rd in the SAL with a .415 slugging percentage.
-The 'Dads also rank 2nd with 247 doubles and 3rd with 34 triples.
-INF Luis Sardinas is batting .462 (6-for-13) in his last five games.
-INF Alejandro Selen is batting .473 (26-for-55) with runners in scoring position and .402 (33-for-82) with runners on-base, the highest of any Crawdad in both situations.
-OF Zach Cone is hitting .368 (14-for-38) in his last 10 games with eight runs scored and 10 RBIs.
-INF Drew Robinson has the 3rd-most walks in the SAL (79). He leads the team in both walks and RBIs (60).
-Robinson has a .417 average (5-for-12) with eight runs scored and two home runs in his last four games played.
-All-Star RHP Nick Martinez has posted consecutive shutout starts against Asheville and Savannah, allowing just four hits while striking out seven in 12 combined innings.
-RHP Arlett Mavare has struck out 10 batters in his last 7.2 innings of relief work.
