Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC-The Hickory Crawdads beat the Lake County Captains, 4-3, on Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium. The walk-off win was Hickory's season-high 9th straight. The Dads' now own a 4-game lead over Lake County and Lakewood in the northern division.
The Captains took the early 1-0 lead in the 1st with an RBI single by Jason Denham off Mike Crotta. However, that was the only run Crotta allowed in 7 strong IP. Crotta also retired the side in order in 5 different innings.
Lake County's lead didn't last long. Hickory tied it up at 1-1 after Danilo Sanchez's solo HR to left in the 2nd. The homer was his first as a Crawdad.
Hickory took a 2-1 lead in the 7th. Jim Negrych led off the inning with a double. He later touched home on Eddie Prasch's RBI sac-fly. The Captains took the lead back in the 8th. With 2-outs and the bases loaded, Beau Mills muscled a 2-strike pitch to left to score a pair of runs, making it 3-2 in favor of Lake County. Hickory squared things up at 3-3 in the home half of the 8th. Alex Presley led off the inning with a single to center. The "Birthday Boy" (Presley turned 22 today) scored on an RBI double smashed to the fence in center by Jonel Pacheco.
After Charles Benoit worked a scoreless top of the 9th, the Dads' targeted the win in the bottom of the 9th. Jim Negrych led off the inning with a single. The next batter, Sanchez, hit a slow-roller on the ground towards second base, which was misplayed by SS Carlos Rivero. That put Negrych on 2nd, and Sanchez was safe at 1st. Two batters later, J.L. De Los Santos slapped a grounder into left. Negrych flew home and beat the throw from Nick Weglarz to score the winning run. Negrych was mobbed at the plate as Hickory earned its 9th straight victory.
Benoit (8-3) earned the win. Luis Perdomo (2-5) suffered the loss. The Crawdads continue their 4 game series with Lake County tomorrow at 7:00 at L.P. Frans Stadium. RHP Dustin Craig is scheduled to start for Hickory. All games can be heard live on WMNC 92.1 FM.
