
Crawdads Cruise to 9-2 Win Over Shorebirds

Salisbury, Md. - The Hickory Crawdads scored runs in five straight innings between the second and sixth to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds (40-42, 5-7) 9-2 at L.P. Frans Stadium on Monday night.
The Shorebirds were first to strike in the second inning. Joe Oliveira hit a two-out single to right field. Then, Michael Rooney doubled down the left field line to advance Oliveira to third. Mikey Planeta followed with an infield single to score Oliveira.
The Crawdads answered with a run in the bottom of the second. Christian Villanueva hit a double through the left-center field gap to score Andrew Clark, who was issued a leadoff walk.
Hickory used two errors by Jarret Martin in the third to build a 4-1 lead. Jonathan Roof started the inning with a single. Roof reached third on a two-base throwing error by Martin on a pickoff attempt at first. Jurickson Profar singled Roof home. Two batters later, Tomas Telis dropped a bunt and Martin threw high to third, allowing Profar to score. Later in the inning, Josh Richmond grounded out to score Herrera.
In the fourth, Adam Gaylord crushed his first home run of the season over the left field wall in his 219th at-bat to trim the deficit to 4-2.
The Crawdads added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build a 6-2 lead. In the sixth, the Crawdads scored two runs on RBIs by Herrera and Telis. The Crawdads added a ninth run in the eighth on an RBI by Profar. Hickory scored runs in six of their final seven innings at the plate.
Hickory starter Nick Tepesch earned the win over six innings. He allowed two runs. Shorebirds starter Jarret Martin was pinned with the loss in three innings.
Ben Henry picked up the save by keeping the Shorebirds hitless over the final three innings. He faced just one batter over the minimum in three shutout innings.
Brenden Webb paced the Shorebirds offense with a 3-for-4 night. He has five multi-hit games in his last eight games played.
Cameron Roth threw three innings for the Shorebirds and Ashur Tolliver tossed the final two. Roth allowed six hits and four runs while Tolliver surrendered two hits and one run.
The Delmarva Shorebirds and Hickory Crawdads collide in game two of the series on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. RHP Luis Noel is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
