With rainouts at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis on Monday and Tuesday nights, the Hickory Crawdads and Kannapolis Intimidators played the first of back-to-back double headers Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. More than 1,800 fans watched the Intimidators shut out Hickory 1-0 in game one while the ‘Dads won the nightcap 5-4.

In game one, Kannapolis right hander Ricky Brooks fired six shutout innings of two hit ball to earn the win. Brooks (6-5) did not walk a batter and struck out five. He gave way to Matt Long who allowed a two out double in the seventh, but got a fly ball to end the game and earn his first career save.

The lone run of game one came on Kannapolis 2B Eric Mesa's two out, seventh inning single off of Crawdad reliever Justin Vaclavik. Kannapolis LF Aaron Cunningham led off the inning with a single and after one was out DH Brandon Allen singled to put runners at the corners. Vaclavik relieved starter Joe Bauserman and gave up the game winning single. Bauserman (3-5) allowed just one run on six hits in six and one-third innings.

In game two, Hickory SS Brent Lillibridge doubled leading off the bottom of the first inning. He scored on DH Mike McCuistion's two out RBI single against Kannapolis starter Derek Rodriguez.

Leading 1-0 in the second, Lillibridge tripled home 3B John Santiago and catcher Chris Jones with one out. Lillibridge scored to make it 4-0 on 2B Shelby Ford's RBI single.

Kannapolis got within 4-3 with two runs in the third and one in the fourth. Hickory widened the lead with a run in bottom of the fifth on McCuistion's single scoring CF Andrew McCutchen. The Intimidators got within 5-4 on 1B Brandon Allen's RBI ground ball scoring 3B Adam Ricks in the sixth. Allen drove in two of the four Kannapolis runs.

Jean Garavito (6-6) allowed one unearned run on one hit in two and one third innings to pick up the win. Rodriguez (2-8) allowed five runs on seven hits in five frames to take the loss. Matt Swanson earned his seventh save of the season with a scoreless, hitless seventh.

The two teams play a double-header starting at 6pm Thursday night. Hickory right handers Todd Redmond and Luis Munoz will take the mound. Kannapolis southpaw Clayton Richard matches up with Redmond in game one and righty John Wesley gets Munoz in game two.
