(Lakewood, NJ)-Lakewood's Jeremy Slayden was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night, forcing in the winning run in the BlueClaws' 3-2 victory over the Lake County Captains at FirstEnergy Park.

The ninth-inning rally completed a late-inning comeback for the BlueClaws (5-1), who won their fourth in a row, and their third straight against the Captains (3-4). The BlueClaws are in first place in the SAL North.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the ninth, Lakewood shortstop Fidel Hernandez led off with a single to center against Captains righthander Matt Davis (0-6). The next hitter, Julian Williams failed to get the bunt down, but blooped a single to right after getting down two strikes. Hernandez moved to third. After a walk to Greg Golson loaded the bases, Mike Spidale grounded to shortstop Chris De La Cruz, who threw home to force Hernandez for the first out.

Davis then worked a 2-1 count to Slayden before an inside fastball clipped the hitter in the right knee to force in Williams with the winning run.

The Captains broke a scoreless tie in the eighth with a pair of runs against Ron Hill. Marshall Szabo and De La Cruz led off the inning with singles, and Johnny Drennen followed with an RBI single to score Szabo for a 1-0 lead. Drennen later scored on a throwing error to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the eighth, the BlueClaws took advantage of a pair of lead-off walks to Spidale and Slayden by reliever Dustin Roddy. Clay Harris doubled to left to drive in Spidale to make it 2-1. Slayden moved to third. The Captains brought in Davis, who gave up a sacrifice fly to Avelino Asprilla to tie the game 2-2.
