Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Savannah Sand Gnats trailed the Rome Braves 2-1 entering the fourth inning before a rain delay caused the game to be postponed. The game will pick up tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. and will be played to its conclusion.

Craig Stammen threw well in the outing, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings with three strikeouts.

The Gnats got on the board in the second when Leonard Davis skied a triple into center field and scored one batter later on Dee Brown's sacrifice fly. The triple was Davis' third of the season and the third baseman has now combined for the cycle in this series.

The Braves took a one-run lead in the top of the third when Robert Marcial reached on a one-out walk and scored from second one batter later on a line-drive double off the bat of Elvis Andrus. Andrus then came home when Manny Rodriguez put a two-out double to the gap in right-center, making it a 2-1 game in favor of Rome.

At the start of the top of the fourth, lightning struck, halting the game before rain came down causing a longer delay.

Savannah and Rome will play the game to its conclusion Thursday night at 5:05 p.m. followed by Thursday's regularly scheduled contest. Tomorrow is Thirsty Thursday, featuring half-priced beers and Cokes and $1 slices of Papa John's Pizza.
