KANSAS CITY - Edmonton banged out 16 hits en route to a 9-3 win over the Kansas City T-Bones (8-12) Wednesday afternoon at CommunityAmerica Ballpark before a crowd of 4,738. With the win the Cracker-Cats (11-8) claimed a 2-1 series victory after splitting Tuesday's doubleheader with the T-Bones.
The Cracker-Cats jumped ahead for good in the second, scoring four unearned runs off Kansas City starter Larry Robles. Greg Morrison delivered the big blow of the inning, singling home Stubby Clapp and Ashley Freeman with two-out. Terrence McClain followed with an RBI-single to give Edmonton a 5-0 lead and all the offense it would need.
Edmonton right-hander Reggie Rivard (3-2) held the T-Bones in check all afternoon in working his first complete game of the season. Following solo home runs by Charles Peterson and Brandon Jones in the bottom of the second, Rivard gave up just four more hits, retiring 11 batters in a row at one point.
Robles (3-2) suffered the loss after being tagged for seven runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks in just 2 1/3 innings. The T-Bones received a lift from their bullpen, as Ryan Tauscher tossed a season-high three scoreless innings.
Stubby Clapp led the Edmonton offense with four hits on the afternoon, while Greg Morrison (3 RBI) and Jeremy Ware chipped in with three hits apiece.
After an off-day on Thursday, the T-Bones will welcome the Gary Southshore RailCats to CommunityAmerica Ballpark Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Greg Bicknell (1-3, 4.89) gets the starting nod for Kansas City, while RHP Willie Glen (3-2, 3.94) will take the hill for the RailCats.
