June 7, 2006 - Northern League (NL)
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Fargo-Moorhead had their three-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday afternoon as the Schaumburg Flyers jumped out to an early lead and never let the RedHawks get back in the game, winning 5-2 at Newman Outdoor Park and giving the 'Hawks just their second home loss of the season.
Mike Peschel (0-2) made just his second start for Fargo-Moorhead and gave up two runs in the first inning to put the RedHawks down early. Peschel only allowed one more run in the game after pitching 6.0 innings but took the loss.
In the bottom of the second inning the RedHawks were forced to make some changes in the field after Schaumburg starter Kenny Durost threw a pitch that hit Richard Austin in the head. It was the second time this week that Austin had been hit in the head by a pitch causing him to be removed from the game.
Billy DeNet got the call from the dugout and was sent in to play second base as Craig Ringe moved to left field and Brent Krause replaced Austin in right field.
Offensively DeNet went 2-for-3 at the plate after coming into the game but had a costly error in the fourth inning that allowed Josue Lopez to score from third base for the game-winning run for the Flyers.
Fargo-Moorhead scored just two runs, posting one run seventh and eighth innings in the loss.
After a day off on Thursday the RedHawks will return to action as they begin another three-game homestand with the Calgary Vipers. Game time on Thursday is set for 7:05 p.m. as the RedHawks send Shawn Ryan (2-1, 2.35) to the mound to face Calgary's Clint Hosford (2-2, 5.06).
