There were runners on at first and second for Mike Goss, who singled to move runners up to second and third base. John Lackaff hit a two-run single to make it 3-0 Joliet.
The JackHammers scored a single run in the second inning when Drobiak doubled and Dennis Blackmon hit an RBI single. Drobiak scored and the lead was 4-0 Joliet.
The RailCats got on the board in the fifth inning when catcher Chris Curry pulled a Kevin Cheppenko fastball over the left field wall for a solo home run. Gary scored another run in the sixth inning when Tanner Townsend hit a sacrifice fly off the JackHammers starter to make the score 5-2 Joliet.
Cheppenko (1-0) pitched six innings and got the victory. He allowed three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out none.
Joliet scored six runs in the seventh inning against RailCats reliever Jeremy Schmidt. Drobiak led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. He advanced to second base on a single by Kyle Nichols. Dennis Blackmon laid down a bunt to the pitcher Schmidt, who threw late to third base to try and pick off the lead runner Drobiak.
