Coyotes Sweep Double Dip

AMARILLO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes swept a double header against the Amarillo Dillas as they won 3-1 Tuesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. With the loss by Laredo Tuesday night, the Coyotes (31-36) lead the Broncos in the standings by half a game. Aaron Guerra (9-1) struggled in the beginning of the ball game after walking three hitters but settled down after that. Guerra picked up his ninth win of the season after pitching five innings and allowing one run on five hits.

With two outs, Danny Bravo got the Dillas (40-30) on the score board first in the first inning with and RBI single to left field that scored Stephen Douglas from third which made the score 1-0. The Coyotes answered in the top of the third inning. Patrick Gaylord started the inning off with a double. Then Angelo Fermin singled to right field which put runners on the corners for Daryl Jones. Jones then hit a two run double to deep right center field which scored Gaylord and Fermin to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead. The Coyotes added to their lead in the top of the seventh. Gaylord started the inning with a walk. Pinch runner Brandon McConnell then moved to third on a single by Fermin to put runners on the corners with one out. Manager Vince Moore then signaled for the double steal which scored McConnell from third to extend the Coyotes lead to 3-1. The stolen base by Fermin was his 30th of the season. Luke Prihoda pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his sixth save of the year.

The Coyotes will travel to San Angelo for a three game series at Foster Field. After the series in San Angelo the Coyotes will travel back to Amarillo for another three game series against the Dillas.
