San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - There is no such thing as a sure thing in life. However, the San Angelo Colts have been a sure bet this season on Mondays at home.
Prior to the season, Sherwin Williams agreed to sponsor "Sure Win" Mondays at Foster Field this summer. If the Colts lost a Monday home game, fans at that game would receive free tickets to the next Monday home game. And the Colts sure won to make good on Sherwin Williams' guarantee, as the Colts finished undefeated on Mondays at home, defeating the Harlingen WhiteWings last night 12-11 to close with a 4-0 record on such days.
"Sherwin Williams put their money where their mouth is and the team was able to come through each and every time," said Colts general manager Mike Babcock. "We know our fans would love free tickets, but they love a Colts' win even more, and our tremendous fan support is a big reason why we are 23-12 here at Foster Field."
Had the Colts lost yesterday, fans at the game would have received free tickets to the Colts' home game on Friday, August 1 against the Edinburg Coyotes, since there are no other Monday regular-season home games.
The Colts will have another Monday home game though-in the playoffs. San Angelo has already clinched the no. 2 seed, granting them home field for the entire first-round series. The post-season begins on Monday, August 18, and playoff tickets are currently available at the Colts' box office, at the Colts' official web site, www.sanangelocolts.com, or by calling (325) 94-COLTS.
Harlingen nearly put a blemish on the record last night, scoring five runs in the top of the ninth to take an 11-10 lead. However, the Colts rallied in the bottom of the ninth for a dramatic 12-11 victory, as Albert Gonzalez hit a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded to end the game and give the Colts their fourth straight win overall.
The first Monday home game of the year was on June 9 against the Laredo Broncos. That night, right-handed pitcher Luke Massetti out-dueled Santo Hernandez, one of the best pitchers in the league, and the Colts prevailed 5-1. One week later, the Colts crushed the Edinburg Coyotes, scoring 11 runs in the second inning (their biggest inning of the year) en route to a 17-7 win. Two weeks later, on the final day of June, catcher Wyn Diggs broke a 3-3 tie with a grand slam in the sixth inning to put the Colts ahead for good, as San Angelo beat the Alexandria Aces 9-6 that night.
The Colts defeated four different opponents on the four Monday home games this season. The only team in the league they did not face on a Monday at home was the Amarillo Dillas.
Fans still have an opportunity for free tickets to tonight's game though, as the Colts conclude their six-game series with Harlingen tonight, July 29, at 7:05 p.m. CT with a Buyout Night, as WTU sponsors free admission to everyone at Foster Field. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
