Colts Put Away WhiteWings

Harlingen, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings (18-50) trailed 5-4 entering after seven, but the San Angelo Colts (41-25) scored five runs to put away a 10-4 win tonight at Foster Field.

In the eighth, Wyn Diggs hit a one-out single against Angel Cordero. Joe Rhomberg walked and Albert Gonzlaez hit an RBI-single. After a ground out advanced the runners, John Anderson struck out on a wild pitch, allowing him to reach and Rhomberg to score. Bobby Darling came in to face Jose Torres, who hit his 13th home run of the season to make it 10-4.

Matt Greanead pitched the final two innings for his first save.

The Colts got things going with two outs in the third against Alex Gett (3-8). Anderson and Torres walked. Andres Rodriguez hit an RBI-single and Aaron Cone hit an RBI-double. Jason Landreth followed his sixth home run of the series to make it 5-0.

The WhiteWings responded in the fifth against Frank James Jr. (4-5). Carl Johnson led off with a single. Anthony Slagle walked and David Fowler reached on a fielder's choice. Kevin Griffin then launched his third home run of the season to make it 5-3.

In the seventh, Griffin led off with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. A fly ball to deep center got Griffin to third, and Cardona hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-4.

The WhiteWings return home to face the Laredo Broncos tomorrow night at 7:05. Right-hander Todd Lutz (2-5) will face right-hander Andy Schon (7-3). It will be the first of nine-straight free home games to close out the season.
