
Broncos Rally Late but Fall Short in Series Finale Against Aces

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had the tying run at 2nd but could not get him in as they fell to the Alexandria Aces by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos now head to Harlingen for a short 3 game series vs. the WhiteWings on Wednesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The game would be scoreless till the 4th inning when the Aces broke through against Broncos starter Richard Bartlett. With 1 out Bryan Sabatella singled and then went to 3rd on a single by Rafael Ozuna. Jose Umbria then reached on a fielder's choice with Ozuna out to 2nd. Sabatella would score on the play and make the score 1-0.
The Broncos would grab the lead after being shut down thru the first 4 innings. In the 5th inning Johnny Lopez led off with a double. Ben Tinius followed with a walk and both runners moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Bennett. Sean Gamble then drew a walk, and on the ball 4 pitch, a wild pitch was thrown by starter Chad Linder as Lopez scored and Tinius move to 3rd. After a strike out, Luany Sanchez came through with a rbi single scoring Tinius and moving Gamble to 2nd. Edgard Clemente then hit a ball on the ground that hit off Linder's leg. Gamble never stopped running and tried to score on the play. The throw by Linder was low and got by the catcher allowing Gamble to score. That gave the Broncos the 3-1 lead.
Alexandria would strike again in the 6th inning. With 1 out Jose Umbria singled and then went 2nd on a walk to Madison Edwards. Homy Ovalles then followed with a single scoring Umbria and advancing Edwards to 2nd. Eddie Fitzpatrick then hit a rbi double scoring Edwards and moving Ovalles to 3rd. Then with 2 outs, Luis Guance would walk and that would do it for Richard Bartlett as Mickey Callaway came in. Callaway got out of the bases loaded jam by getting Selwyn Langaigne to ground out. However the score would be 3-3.
Bartlett only went 5 2/3 for the Broncos. He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits. He walked 5 batters and struck out 5.
The Aces would take the lead back in the 7th inning. Bryan Sabatella led off with a single and then scored on a double by Rafael Ozuna. That would do it for Mickey Callaway as David Waslyak came in. After a sacrifice bunt by Jose Umbria moved Ozuna to 3rd, Madison Edwards hit a rbi single scoring Ozuna. Edwards would then score on a triple by Homy Ovalles. That would make the score 6-3 in favor of Alexandria.
The Broncos would threaten in the 8th. Edgard Clemente and Dwayne White would walk. But, Arnoldo Ponce and Johnny Lopez could not drive anyone in as Laredo still trailed 6-3. It would remain that way heading into the bottom of the 9th as Wayne Hedden came in for the save.
Ben Tinius would lead off the inning with a single and then go to 2nd on a wild pitch. Then with 1 out, Sean Gamble singled which moved Tinius to 3rd. A wild pitch was then thrown by Wayne Hedden which allowed Tinius to score and Gamble to go to 2nd. After a ground out moved Gamble to 3rd, Luany Sanchez singled him in to cut the lead to one. Steven Wright then pinch ran and went to 2nd on a single by Edgard Clemente. Dwayne White then grounded out to end the inning as the Broncos fell by a score of 6-5.
The Broncos scored 5 runs on 11 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Aces scored 6 runs on 12 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos fall to 33-39 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Wednesday when they play game 1 of a 3 game series against the Harlingen WhiteWings in Harlingen at 7:05.
