San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - The number five was lucky for the Colts Tuesday night, as San Angelo used a pair of five-spots to win their fifth straight over the White Wings, beating Harlingen 10-4 to close out their series in front of 4,035 on WTU Buy-Out Night at Foster Field.
Jason Landreth also joined in the five parade, homering for the fifth straight game to give the Colts (41-25) a 5-0 lead in the third. With two outs and no one on in the frame after a strike-him-out-throw-him-out double play, John Anderson walked and stole second. Then Jose Torres walked, and Andres Rodriguez singled to score Anderson. Aaron Cone followed with a two-run double that just eluded the try of left fielder David Cardona to precede the home run by Landreth. The Colts' DH was down in the count 0-2 but battled back to a full count before crushing his sixth homer of the series, to left- center off Wings starter Alex Gett (3-8).
Gett, who shut the Colts down to the tune of eight and two-thirds innings and four runs in the series opener, lasted just 3 2/3 tonight, giving up five runs on five hits, with four walks hurting him as well.
Frank James (4-5), who Gett defeated on Thursday, pitched into the eighth inning to get the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits. The lefty gave up a three-run homer to Kevin Griffin in the fifth, but was not in trouble for most of the rest of the night
In the eighth, Matt Greanead came on with the potential tying run at first in a 5-4 game, and with one out, allowed a double to Anthony Slagle. But on a grounder to short by David Fowler with the middle infield playing back, the runner from third, Trey Hendricks, did not even attempt to come home, allowing Albert Gonzalez to throw Fowler out at first. Griffin then grounded out to second to end the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Colts picked up their second five-run inning, aided by a two-out wild pitch on strike three swinging to Anderson that prolonged the already two-run inning. Jose Torres then hit the first pitch from reliever Bobby Darling beyond the water tanks in left-center to tie Andres Rodriguez for the team lead with his 13th homer of the year, a three-run shot which provided the final margin of victory.
Greanead then pitched around a single and an error in the ninth to pick up his first pro save, giving the Colts a 5-1 series over the WhiteWings (18-50).
