Last season, he appeared in 81 AHL games with Syracuse and San Antonio, finishing with 9-8-17 and 106 PIM. Goertzen also scored one goal while playing in all seven of San Antonio's playoff contests.
The 6-foot-2, 218-pound Goertzen has appeared in 50 career NHL games, with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Coyotes. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 21, 2005 and went on to play 39 games for the Blue Jackets during the 2005-06 season, finishing with 44 PIM. In 2006-07, he appeared in seven games for Columbus.
A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen has played in 287 career AHL games with Syracuse and San Antonio, recording 32-39-71 and 450 PIM. Goertzen was originally drafted by Columbus in the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The Coyotes acquired him from Columbus in exchange for Nate DiCasmirro on Feb. 28, 2008.
