Last Week's Games

Tuesday, January 20th - Quad City Flames 0 at Milwaukee Admirals 4

The Admirals secured a 4-0 win vs. Quad City on Tuesday. Hugh Jessiman recorded a hat trick in the win while Drew MacIntyre stopped 32 shots to record his third shutout of the year. The Admirals took a 1-0 lead when they scored the only goal of the opening frame during a power play. Hugh Jessiman took a shot from high in the slot that snuck through traffic and into the Quad City net. The tally was Jessiman's seventh of the year and was assisted by Cody Franson and Cal O'Reilly. After a scoreless middle frame, the Admirals recorded three goals in the third period to secure the win. Ryan Jones tipped home a centering feed from Patric Hornqvist to give the Admirals a two-goal cushion. Jones later assisted on Hugh Jessiman's second goal of the evening when he hit the Admirals forward on the goal-mouth. Jessiman swatted home the pass to give Milwaukee a three-goal edge. Jessiman capped his hat trick moments later when he scored into an empty net to set the final at 4-0.

Friday, January 23rd - Quad City Flames 1 at Grand Rapids Griffins 2 Shootout

The Flames suffered a 2-1 shootout loss on Friday night in Grand Rapids. The teams traded power-play goals in regulation before the Griffins won the game on a perfect three-for-three performance in the shootout. Kyle Greentree scored the Flames regulation goal. The Flames took a 1-0 lead when Kyle Greentree rifled home the only goal of the opening frame at 10:19 of the period. Greentree sent home a shot from the slot that Grand Rapids netminder Daniel Larsson was able to deflect but not stop. It was the 21st goal of the year for Greentree and gave the Flames a one-goal advantage after 20 minutes. The teams skated scoreless through the second period as Larsson turned aside 13 Flames shots while Quad City netminder Matt Keetley made nine saves including a flurry of fantastic stops in the final five minutes of the period. The Griffins tied the game early in the third period when Ville Leino tucked home a rebound off a shot by Darren Haydar. Jamie Tardif earned the secondary assist on the power-play tally. The teams skated scoreless through the remainder of regulation and the overtime session. In the shootout, the Griffins went three-for-three as Ville Leino, Mattias Ritola and Evan McGrath all scored while Larsson stopped all three shots he faced.

Saturday, January 24th - Quad City Flames 0 at Grand Rapids Griffins 1 Shootout

The Flames wrapped up the first leg of a nine-game road trip with a spectacular goaltenders duel on Saturday in Grand Rapids. After a scoreless regular session, the Griffins escaped with a shootout win by a final of 1-0. Quad City's Matt Keetley was spectacular while turning aside 34 shots. In the Griffins net, Jimmy Howard established a new career high with 43 saves. Cory Emmerton provided the lone goal in the shootout session. The Flames carried play for the majority of the opening frame en route to outshooting the Griffins 17-9. The shot output by Quad City marked a franchise record for shots on goal in a first period, but the team could not beat Griffins netminder Jimmy Howard. Flames goaltender Matt Keetley held his ground as well as he turned aside every first period shot he faced to keep the game scoreless after 20 minutes. The second period was highlighted by more outstanding goaltending. Keetley stopped 14 shots in the middle period including a breakaway by Ville Leino and a pair of great chances off the stick of Evan McGrath. Grand Rapids' Howard stopped 16 shots in the middle period, and the Griffins penalty kill denied three Flames power-play opportunites. The game remained scoreless after two periods despite the fact that the teams combined for 56 shots through the opening 40 minutes. The quantity of chances decreased in the third, but the quality did not. Keetley stopped eight Grand Rapids shots while Howard stopped nine Quad City chances to keep the game scoreless. An overtime power-play for the Griffins also failed to yield the game's first tally, and the teams headed to overtime. In the shooutout, Howard continued to stymie the Flames as he turned aside all five Quad City shooters. The lone goal of the night came off the stick of Cory Emmerton, who scored in the fourth round of the shootout for the Griffins.
