Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have recalled goaltender Tuukka Rask from Providence on an emergency basis. With the move, the P-Bruins have 22 players on their roster, including 14 forwards, seven defensemen and one goaltender.
Rask, 21, has been recalled to Boston on an emergency basis on two previous occasions, backing up Tim Thomas in wins over the Carolina Hurricanes on January 10 and the Montreal Canadiens on January 12. The second-year net-minder has a 19-15-0 record for Providence, adding three shutouts, a 2.46 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage in 34 games. Rask's 19 wins are the third most in the AHL while his save percentage ranks 10th.
Rask appeared in four games for Boston in 2007-08, going 2-1-1 with a 3.25 GAA, including a win in his NHL debut over the Toronto Maple Leafs, the club that drafted him 21st overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. While in the AHL, the 2008 PlanetUSA AHL All-Star starting goalie compiled a 27-13-2 record over 45 appearances to go along with a 2.33 GAA. Following the regular season and prior to collecting two shutouts and a 2.18 GAA in 10 postseason games, Rask was awarded Providence' Martone Group Rookie of the Year honor. Boston acquired the native of Savonlinna, Finland, from Toronto on June 24, 2006 in exchange for fellow goalie Andrew Raycroft.
Providence Bruins season tickets, Flex Tix packages and single game tickets are on sale now for the 2008-09 season. To purchase tickets or to learn more information, call the P-Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website at providencebruins.com.
