Physical play, penalties, and give-and-take goals characterized the seventh matchup of the season between the Manitoba Moose and Rochester Americans on Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena. In the final game of a five-game road tour for the Moose, the club couldn't have asked for a better ending, beating the Syracuse Crunch 3-2 in overtime at the War Memorial at Oncenter on Saturday night. Former Syracuse tender Karl Goehring beat his former club for the first time this season by stopping 24 shots.
Moose Notes
ROAD RECORDS: With Wednesday's win over Hamilton (4-3W at Hamilton), Friday's win over Rochester (3-2SOW at Rochester) and Saturday's victory over Syracuse (3-2OTW at Syracuse) Manitoba extended their road winning streak to eight consecutive games, the longest of the season. The previous season mark was five consecutive victories away from the MTS Centre from Oct. 29/08-Nov. 7/08. The Moose have now tied the franchise record for consecutive wins on the road, set last season (Feb. 3/08-Mar. 10/08).
MIKE KEANE BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT: The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with Coca Cola, are proud to offer Mike Keane bobblehead Night, Friday, January 30th when the Rockford IceHogs come to the MTS Centre to face the Moose. Game tickets must be shown at the door and the first 5000 game tickets will receive a voucher good for one bobblehead. Fans can take their voucher to the bobblehead redemption booths located on the main concourse. This is only the second time in franchise history the club has given away a bobblehead, the first being back in 2004 when the team gave away a bobblehead of Mick E. Moose.
Upcoming Opponent
The Manitoba Moose are back in white this Thursday, Jan. 29th and Friday, Jan. 30th to host the Rockford IceHogs for the first time this campaign. The Moose visited Rockford earlier this season on Halloween and beat the club 2-1. Manitoba's all-time record against the IceHogs is 3-2-0-0 (1-1-0-0 at the MTS Centre).
Player of the Week Nominee
Jason Krog
For the second week in a row, the third time in four weeks and fourth time this season, Moose centre Jason Krog is the team's nominee for AHL Player of the Week. Krog appeared in all three games for the Moose this week and continued his hot streak with three goals and two assists this week. He paced the Moose to 4-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs with two goals and an assist including his third game-winning goal. He followed that up with a goal in Friday's shootout win over Rochester which saw him also score a pair of shootout goals, and then he added an assist in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win in Syracuse. Krog is now on a thee-game points streak but has 21 points in his last 16 games and has at least one point in 14 of those 16 games. Krog continues to lead the team in scoring with 48 points and has now climbed to sixth in the entire AHL in scoring. His 32 assists leave him tied for fifth in the league.
