SATURDAY, JANUARY 31 - PHANTOMS vs. ALBANY RIVER RATS - 7:05, Wachovia Spectrum

The Phantoms resume their schedule after the All-Star break when they host the Albany River Rats (Carolina Hurricanes) in a Saturday matchup at the Wachovia Spectrum. Albany starts the week with a record of 19-21-3-2 for 43 points, which slots them sixth in the East Division, 11 points behind the Phantoms. Albany is led in scoring by Michael Ryan, the brother of Phantoms center Billy Ryan, leads the team with 23 goals and 13 assists for 36 points. The 23 goals rank him fourth in the league. The Phantoms are 3-0 against Albany this season and have shut out the Rats twice.

This Saturday night is Backwards Night at the Wachovia Spectrum when the Phantoms host the Albany River Rats at 7:05. There will be all sorts of backwards-themed events throughout the night - starting the game in the third period, moving fans from the glass to the last row of the building, fans doing Chuck-O-Puck with their backs to the ice, and much more! ROSS WINS FASTEST SKATER COMPETITION

Jared Ross won the Fastest Skater event at the AHL Skills Competition on Sunday with a time of just over 14.1 seconds. Ross and defenseman Danny Syvret are representing the Phantoms at tonight's AHL All-Star Game. Ross is suiting up for the PlanetUSA team, while Syvret is on the Canadian squad. Tonight's game will be carried live on The Comcast Network (formerly CN8) at 7:00 and will be re-broadcast on Thursday at 7:00 on Comcast SportsNet.

MUNROE NOMINATED FOR AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Phantoms nominated G Scott Munroe for Reebok/AHL Player of theWeek consideration this week. Munroe went 2-1 this week with a 1.68 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage as he continued to face an incredible barrage of opposition shooting. Munroe faced 116 shots this week and made 111 saves. He was named one of the three stars of the game in all of Philadelphia's games this week, including third-star recognition in the 3-0 shutout loss at Binghamton on Wednesday. He was the first star with 43 saves on Friday against Manchester and the third star with 30 saves on Saturday against Lake Erie.

Honorable mention went to C Jonathan Matsumoto. Matsumoto had a goal and two assists for three points in Philadelphia's three games this week, with all the scoring coming in the final two contests. Matsumoto was the hero on Saturday night against Lake Erie, scoring the game-winning goal with 19 seconds left in regulation.

MUNROE MOTORING

In his last seven games, Scott Munroe has faced 286 shots, an average of 40.9 per game. He has made 271 saves for an average of 38.7 per game and a save percentage of .948 in that period. Munroe is 6-1 during those seven games and has been named one of the game's three stars in six of them, including the one loss - a 3-0 shutout loss to Binghamton on Wednesday in which Munroe was named the third star. The rundown is as follows:

1-14 vs WOR: 42 saves, 2nd star

1-16 vs LOW: 37 saves, no star, win

1-17 at HER: 49 saves, (tied own franchise record), 5-7 in shootout, 3rd star

1-18 vs ALB: 32 saves, 1st star

1-21 at BNG: 38 saves, 3rd star (shutout loss)

1-23 vs MCH: 43 saves, 1st star

1-24 vs LEM: 30 saves, 3rd star

NEWS AND NOTES

Saturday's game against Lake Erie marked just the second time in Philadelphia's last 15 games that the Phantoms have allowed fewer than 38 shots. The Monsters managed just 32 shots in Saturday's 3-2 win for the Phantoms. Philadelphia has allowed a total of 628 shots in its last 15 games, for an average of 41.9 shots allowed per game. In the previous 32 games, the Phantoms allowed 1030 shots, for an average of 32.2 shots allowed per game. Philadelphia has not outshot an opponent in a period since a 16-12 advantage in the second period of the 4-3 shootout win at Hershey on Jan. 17, a span of 13 periods. Philadelphia has only held a period shot advantage twice in its last 13 games (39 periods).
