AMARILLO, Texas-The Edinburg Coyotes avoided the sweep with a 12-11 victory over the Amarillo Dillas Monday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. With the win by the Coyotes and the loss by Laredo, the Coyotes now find themselves tied for fourth place in the standings with six games left against the Broncos. Carlos Jan got the start and struggled early again but he battle for the Coyotes as he pitched five and 1/3 innings and allowed nine runs on twelve hits. But the offense helped him out as he did not factor in the decision. The Dillas started the bottom of the first inning with a walk by Jonathan Reynoso. Then he stole second base with no one out. Keith Brachold then hit an RBI single to center field that scored Reynoso from second which gave the Dillas a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third inning, the Coyotes took the lead after sending 10 hitters to the plate. After a walk to Patrick Gaylord and a groundout by Angelo Fermin, the Coyotes had five consecutive base hits that scored four runs to make the score 4-1. But the inning was not over for the Coyotes, who had runners on the corners with two outs. Brandon McConnell then hit an RBI single to right field which extended the lead 5-1. With runners at first and second, Gaylord then hit an RBI single to left field that scored Amado German from second and then an error by Dillas' left fielder Sam Mclain scored McConnell for a 7-1 lead.
The Dillas answered right back with a two-run home run by Keith Brachold which made the score 7-3. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Dillas had an inning of their own and sent nine hitters to the plate. They scored four runs on four hits and tied the ball game at seven. But the Coyotes regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Mayobanex Santana hit his second home run of the year which made the score 8-7. Then McConnell hit his second home run of the year which extended the Coyotes' lead to 9-7. But again the Dillas tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after Sam Mclain lead off with a double. Then Reynoso hit a single to left field that was misplayed by McConnell in left that allowed Mclain to score from second base which made the score 9-8. Then Brachold hit an RBI double that scored Reynoso from first base which tied the game at nine. The Coyotes answered right back in the top of the seventh inning. McConnell hit a two run double to deep center field that scored Santana and German which made the score 11-9 in favor of the Coyotes.
The Dillas tied it again in the bottom of the eighth inning when a throwing error by Coyotes' first baseman Daryl Jones allowed two runs to score against Julio Castro. But in the top of the ninth, the Coyotes regained the lead when Fermin hit a single that went off the glove of Dillas' third baseman Andrew Wong and allowed German to score from second base which gave the Coyotes a 12-11 lead. Luke Prihoda (3-0) picked up the win after pitching an inning and a 1/3 of scoreless baseball. The Coyotes will open a six game home stand on Tuesday night against the Alexandria Aces at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
