Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos offense was shut down again by the San Angleo Colts as the Broncos lost by a score of 6-3 on Monday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue on their 6 game home stand with the start of a 3 game series against the Amarillo Dillas on Tuesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Colts jumped out to a lead in the first inning. With 2 outs Jose Torres doubled, and then scored on a 2 run home run by Andres Rodriguez, his 17th of the season. That gave San Angelo the early 2-0 lead.
The Broncos would get on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning. Anthony Bennett led off with a single and went to 2nd on a ground out. After a fly out moved Bennett to 3rd, Luany Sanchez drove him in with a rbi single. That made the score 2-1.
San Angleo would get the run back and more in the 4th inning. Jose Torres walked to lead off the inning. Andres Rodriguez would fly out to shallow centerfield. Arnoldo Ponce tried to pick off Torres at 1st but the throw got away allowing him to head to 2nd. Then with 2 outs, Jason Landreth singled into left field, Dwayne White's throw was off line a bit and Luany Sanchez had to try a swipe tag. The home plate umpire Kate Sargeant ruled the runner Torres was safe. Both Sanchez and Broncos manager Dan Shwam were ejected arguing the call. Wyn Diggs followed with a single moving Landreth to 3rd. Joe Rhomberg then hit a 3 run home run, his 1st of the season. That made the score 6-1.
The Broncos could not get any sort of offense going against Colts starter Chris Weast. Finally Laredo threatened in the 7th inning. They had runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 away. Ivan Reyes would strike out and that was the last batter Weast faced. Brian Wilburn came in and got Josue Gonzalez to ground out to end the inning with the Broncos trailing 6-1.
Laredo would get a run in the 8th. With 1 out Dwayne White tripled and score on a single by Arnoldo Ponce. Matt Imwalle reached on a fielder's choice as Ponce was out at 2nd. Ben Tinius and Anthony Bennett would walk to load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate. But, Sean Gamble would hit into a fielder's choice. The score was now 6-2.
Andy Schon would be done for the Broncos after 8 innings of work. He gave up 6 runs, on 9 hits, he walked 2 batters, and struck out 7. Maximo De La Cruz would come into the game and pitch a scoreless 9th, as the Broncos trailed by 4 runs heading into the bottom of the 9th against reliever Luke Massetti.
Ivan Reyes would fly out for the 1st out, but Josue Gonzalez would walk right after. Edgard Clemente then singled into left field with Gonzalez going to 3rd. Dwayne White would reach on a fielder's choice with Clemente out at 2nd and Gonzalez scoring.
The Broncos scored 3 runs on 10 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Colts scored 6 runs on 10 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos fall to 36-42 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday when they play game 1 of a 3 game series against the Amarillo Dillas in Laredo at 7:35.
