FORT WORTH, TX- The Wichita Wingnuts blanked the Fort Worth Cats 5-0 at LaGrave Field on Monday night.
Wingnuts' starter Adam Cowart picked up where Kevin Angelle left off on Sunday, tossing seven-plus scoreless innings to earn his sixth win of the year. Cowart struck out two and walked one while allowing only five hits.
Cowart escaped a first inning jam, stranding a runner on third. Jeremy Sauceda tripled to center with one out, but Cowart retired Kevin Thompson on a comebacker and John Allen on a flyball to right.
Wichita broke the game open early, scoring four times in the top of the second. Facing starter Joel Kirsten, Carlos Rivera led off with a long double that landed just fair inside the right field line. Rivera moved to third on a single through the left side by Raul Gonzalez. After Jorge Delgado was hit by a pitch, Michael Bell slugged a triple to center field that cleared the bases and gave Wichita a 3-0 lead. Jeff Christy followed with a sacrifice fly that made it 4-0. Delgado hit a towering home run off of Kirsten leading off the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 5-0.
