Porter, Angelle Earn Player Of The Week Honors

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Grand Prairie OF Greg Porter and Wichita LHP Kevin Angelle have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.
As the 2009 American Association Player of the Year, Porter has been a force in the league for some time. In the AirHogs past seven games, he collected 16 hits in 27 at-bats for a robust .593 average. Included in the total were three runs batted in, a pair of doubles and his 19th homer of the season. In addition to stretches of excellent production such as this, Porter is a remarkably consistent performer. Of the 87 games in which he's appeared this season, he's failed to register a hit just 11 times.
Angelle turned in dominating performances in his last two starts, leading his team to wins over El Paso and Sioux City, as he pitched 12.1 scoreless innings. He struckout nine in those contests and has opened eyes around the league by striking out 14 batters in his first 17 innings of work. His record stands at 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA. A late season addition to the Wichita staff the 22 year-old lefty played his college ball at Lamar University. In 12 starts as a rookie in the Gulf Coast League last season he demonstrated fine command as he struckout 42 batters while walking just 19.
