Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks took their first regular season loss to the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night 3-1, but that did not stop the Mavs from breaking another franchise record.
Andrew Courtney brought the Mavericks onto the scoreboard in the opening period, assisted by Dave Pszenyczny and Colt King. Courtney's 32nd goal of the season takes over as the Mavericks franchise single-season goal record. The talented forward tied the newest record with teammate Eric Castonguay on Tuesday night, when Courtney tallied 3 goals for a hat trick evening at the Independence Events Center.
The Mavs carried the 1-0 lead through the second period until Tulsa's Todd Robinson tied the game at 1-1 with only 23.4 seconds left on the clock. The heated contest continued through the third period as both teams tested goaltenders Shane Owen and Shane Madolora at opposing ends of the ice. Owen and Madolora proved equal to the task of keeping the scoreboard at 1-1 until the Oilers finally broke through the Mavericks' defenses to edge Missouri 2-1 with only 1:33 left in the game.
The Mavericks pulled Owen from the crease for the extra attacker, but the Oilers capitalized on the empty net and bumped their lead up 3-1 with only 47 seconds left on the clock.
The Mavericks play their last regular season home game on Saturday, March 29th at 7:05pm against the Tulsa Oilers. Tickets are available in person at the Box Office, and online at TicketMaster.com.
