Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars scored a season-high 17 runs Friday night against the Great Lakes Loons and claimed a 17-10 victory in front of 6,705 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The clubs combined for 29 hits, and six different Cougars had a multi-hit effort while all nine scored at least one run.
The Cougars scored five runs immediately against Loons starter Given Kutz. Todd Johnson, Jake Smith, Matt Ray and Justin Frash each collected an RBI base hit during the first-inning outburst to make it 5-0.
Cougars starter Jamie Richmond gave the lead back, allowing five runs on seven hits over four-plus innings, but the Cougars retook control in the bottom of the fifth with a six-run answer against Daigoro Rondon (4-10). Frash's two-run double gave the club a lead it never relinquished, and a four-run sixth put the Cougars ahead, 15-5.
The Loons scored three runs -- two earned -- against Jason Glushon (1-0) and two more off Justin Friend, but the Cougars, who never trailed, countered with two of their own in the last of the eighth to account for the 17-10 finish.
The Cougars (10-17) continue their six-game home stand Saturday night at 6 CT with the first in a three-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts (17-11). Anthony Capra (0-0, 0.00) will oppose Chi-Hung Cheng (4-4, 4.95).
