GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars struck for 17 runs and 18 hits Friday night, defeating the Great Lakes Loons 17-10 Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium
The Cougars struck for five runs in the first inning against Loons' starter Given Kutz on four hits and two walks.
But the Loons battled back with a run in the second, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the score at 5-5. Jaime Ortiz's single in the fifth brought home the tying run.
But in the bottom half of the fifth, the Cougars pulled away with six runs off reliever Daigoro Rondon. They added four more in the sixth and two in the eighth.
The Loons hit two homers in the game, a two-run shot by Brandon Taylor in the seventh and a two-run job by Alex Garabedian in the eighth.
Rondon (4-10) recorded the loss, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) in three innings. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak.
