Bees Finish Nine-Game Road Trip with a Win

Davenport, IA (Jul 18, 2008) - The Burlington Bees ended a nine-game road trip with a bang as they defeated Quad Cities 8-3 Friday night. Both Mike Moustakas and Jamar Walton had three hits while Walton was joined by Johnny Giavotella in hitting a homerun for the Bees.

The Bees scored one run in the top of the first inning. With one out, Johnny Giavotella hit his first professional homerun to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. Quad Cities answered in the bottom of the inning with a run to tie the game. With two outs in the top of the second, Walton hit a solo homerun to right field to give the Bees the lead once again.

The score remained 2-1 all the way through sixth inning. Beginning in the top of the sixth inning, the Bees scored two runs in three consecutive innings. In the sixth, the first out was recorded when Giavotella reached on a Fielder's Choice. Giavotella then went first to third on a Mike Moustakas single. Each runner moved up a base on a wild pitch. Moustakas then scored the second run of the inning when Jason Taylor reached third on an error.

In the top of the seventh, Clint Robinson led off with a double and then scored on a Walton double. After Walton moved to third, Ryan Eigsti hit a sacrifice fly with one out to score Walton and give the Bees a 6-1 lead. The Bees scored their final two runs in the eighth inning. Robinson had a sacrifice fly in the frame that scored Giavotella and Juan Rivera hit a bases loaded infield single to score Moustakas. The River Bandits did add two runs in the bottom of the ninth off a D'Marcus Ingran two-run homerun.

Danny Gutierrez got the start and the win to move to 2-1 on the season. In 6.1 innings of work, he allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. In 2.2 innings, Paul Raglione allowed two runs on two hits.

The Bees outhit Quad Cities 10-7. Walton and Moustakas combined for six of the Bees' ten hits. Walton went 3-3 with two runs and two RBI. Moustakas went 3-4 with two runs and a walk. With the win, the Bees finish the nine-game road trip with a 5-4 record.

The Bees return home Saturday night to begin a six-game home stand and open a three game series with West Michigan. Luis Cota is scheduled to make his first start for the Bees since 2005. First pitch is set for 6:30. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
