BELOIT, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars have won four out of their last five games after sweeping a doubleheader against the playoff-bound Beloit Snappers on Thursday night, winning, 2-0, and, 6-2, at Pohlman Field.

Travis Banwart (2-1) notched his first career quality start with a solid performance in Game 1. The right-hander tossed six innings of three-hit ball, walked none and fanned five, retiring the first 10 batters of the game en route to a win. The Cougars scored runs for him in the top of the seventh, as Alex Valdez and Gustavo Rosendo each poked a run-scoring single to break a scoreless affair, and Sam Demel logged the seventh for his second save.

James Heuser (11-7) delivered a quality start of his own in Game 2, limiting the Snappers to two runs and five hits over six innings for his fifth win in six outings. The Cougars never trailed on Thursday, thanks to Mike Massaro's third-inning RBI single for a 1-0 affair. Then Greg Dowling smashed a two-run homer, and Todd Johnson cracked a solo blast in the fourth for a 4-0 count. Johnson also had a run-scoring double during a two-run fifth inning. Eric Sheridan pitched a scoreless seventh in a non-save situation.

The Cougars (30-27), who continue to be in the thick of a second-half playoff race, earned their second doubleheader sweep of the year, both of which have come on the road. They now head home to start a four-game series on Friday night at 6:30 CT against the Clinton LumberKings. Jason Fernandez (6-2) will make the start against Beau Jones (3-0).
