Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons completed their second to last home stand of the 2007 regular season in fine fashion taking four of six games at Fifth Third Field with a 10-0 win over the Fort Wayne Wizards to complete the four game series. Dayton split a two game set with the Lansing Lugnuts to open the home stand and wrapped things up by taking three of four from Fort Wayne.

The Dragons put the first run on the board Thursday night, picking up an unearned run against Brandon Gomes (LP, 0-4) in the bottom of the first. Keltavious Jones led off the ballgame with a single to right, and was at second base with two outs for Carson Kainer. Kainer grounded slowly to the shortstop Jesus Lopez, but the ball squirted under his glove and into left field to bring in Jones.

Jones again helped the Dragons score runs, this time driving in two in the bottom of the second. Denis Phipps doubled with one out, and Eddy Rodriguez was hit by a pitch. Jones came to the plate with two on and two down, and crushed a double to straightaway center field to extend the Dragons lead to 3-0.

The Dragons plated two more runs in the bottom of the third. A single by Juan Francisco, a wild pitch, and a single by Kainer scored the first run of the inning. After Kainer advanced to second on an error, he scored one out later on a single by Jason Louwsma. The onslaught continued in the bottom of the fourth inning with three more runs crossing the plate to run the score to 8-0. Kainer brought home a pair with a double to left center to run the score up to 7-0. Billy Rojo and Juan Francisco, who both single came home on the Kainer extra base hit. Gomes was lifted in favor of Jake Ociesa (ND) who gave up an RBI single to Jason Louwsma scoring Kainer to make it 8-0. Kainer's run was credited to the line of Gomes, who gave up eight runs, seven earned, in 3.1 innings of work.

Dayton starter Anthony Gressick (WP, 5-7) continued his strong second half on the mound for the Dragons tossing 5.0 innings of shutout baseball. The right hander struck out six, walked four and allowed three hits. Since the all-star break the right hander is a .500 pitcher at 3-3 but the earned run average is a stellar 2.64 in 10 appearances.

Terrell Young (ND) was fantastic out of the Dayton bullpen, retiring the first six Wizards he faced. While Young did his thing on the mound, the Dragons kept scoring runs, adding another pair in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-0. Rojo picked up a run batted in with a single to center and Kainer added his fourth batted in on the night with a SAC fly to center.

The Dragons head out on the road for a six game road trip to Michigan, with four games at West Michigan and then two at Lansing. The Dragons and Whitecaps get the series started Friday night at 7:00 PM from Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park. Dayton will give the starting nod to LHP Jamie Arneson (1-2, 4.38 ERA) while West Michigan counters with RHP Lauren Gagnier (5-11, 4.68 ERA). 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM. All Dragons games in 2007 are streamed live on the internet via All In Broadcasting at www.daytondragons.com.
