Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers concluded their 16-game home stand with a 9-4 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Steve Richard pitched five hitless innings and struck out five for his sixth win of the season. Kuo Hui Lo homered and Jamie McOwen drove in a pair of runs to lead the offense.
Lo put the Timber Rattlers (46-80 overall, 24-34 second half) in front with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning.
Wisconsin piled on in the third inning. Calvin Beamon and Ron Garth got things started with back-to-back singles. Reed Eastley started the scoring with an RBI single. A walk to Joe White loaded the bases. Chief starting pitcher Arik Hempy got the first out with a strikeout.
Then, Alex Liddi followed with an RBI single; McOwen and Juan Beltran drew consecutive bases loaded walks to force in a run; and that was the end for Hempy. Michael Bartek relieved and threw a wild pitch to allow the final run of the inning to score and the Rattlers were up 6-0.
McOwen added an RBI grounder in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 7-0 advantage.
Richard left after five innings and turned the game over to Keith Renaud.
Renaud got the first out of the sixth, but allowed an infield single to Jim Adduci for Peoria's first hit. Blake Lalli followed with a single to put runners on first and third. A wild pitch sent Adduci across the plate and Lalli to second. Renaud walked Russ Canzler and gave up a two-run double to Marquez Smith before settling down to get out of the inning with a 7-3 lead.
Wisconsin took advantage of a pair of errors in the bottom of the sixth inning to go up 9-3. Ron Garth doubled and went to third when Joe White reached second on a dropped fly ball to right. Liddi popped out to shallow left-center with two out, but shortstop Darwin Barney had the ball go off his glove for an error and both runs scored.
The Chiefs (63-65, 32-37) got a run off reliever Tom Ellis when Smith lined a homer to left in the top of the eighth inning. Joe Kantakevich worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off the Chiefs.
The Rattlers concluded their 16-game home stand with a record of 9-7.
Wisconsin begins an eight game road trip on Friday. The journey begins with a four game series against the Burlington Bees at Community Field. Ricky Orta (4-5, 4.80) is the scheduled starter for the Rattlers. Blake Wood (1-1, 3.52) is set to start for the Bees. Game time is 7:00pm.
