GENEVA, Ill. - Four Cedar Rapids Kernels hurlers combined for a four-hit shutout in the Kernels' 6-0 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Friday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Austin Wood (3-5) started for the Kernels (30-38) and worked six innings while limiting the Cougars (34-34) to just four hits. Three of the Kane County knocks came in the second when they loaded the bags on a string of singles. Kenny Swab was unable to come through though as he bounced into a 4-6-3, inning-ending double play.

Cedar Rapids grabbed the lead in the second against Andy Ferguson (0-1). Zach Wright singled with two outs and came around to score on a base hit by Kevin Moesquit. Two more unearned tallies scored off Ferguson as he lasted 5.1 innings. Eric Stamets reached on a passed ball in the third and crossed the plate after a sac fly from Frazier Hall. Zach Borenstein knocked in Hall with a single in the fifth after Hall reached on a Danny Mateo error, one of four from him on the night.

Jonathan Dooley coughed up three runs to the Kernels in the ninth as Borenstein doubled home Andy Workman and Hall. Gary Mitchell touched home after a base hit by Wright to make it, 6-0. Joe Melioris replaced Wood and pitched a perfect seventh. R.J. Alvarez didn't allow a baserunner in the eighth while Ty Kelley worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth.
