PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars Hockey Club is pleased to announce they have signed 2001-born defenceman Joe Kennedy to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement.

Kennedy was a free agent signing who was claimed off WHL waivers in the off-season.

Kennedy, who now calls Issaquah, Washington home, had been living in Mississauga, Ontario for the past several years. Kennedy played at the Junior 'A' level over the last two seasons and split the 2018-19 campaign between the Markham Royals and Stouffville Spirit in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). In 53 regular season games between Markham and Stouffville, Kennedy had four points (2g, 2a) to go along with 28 penalty-minutes. He also suited up for the Oakville Blades and Milton Icehawks in his OJHL career.

"Joe was a bit of an unknown coming into Training Camp, but he's been a real nice surprise," stated Cougars' General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb. "His work ethic and determination is off the charts. He's a great story and we're thrilled to have him signed."

The smooth skating defenceman was a fourth-round selection, 64th overall, by the Saginaw Spirit in the 2017 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft. Prior to the OJHL, Kennedy played for the Toronto Red Wings Minor Midget AAA in the Greater Toronto Major Midget Hockey League.

Single game tickets go on-sale this Friday. See exciting Western Hockey League action starting at just $13 per game! For more information, visit the TicketsNorth box office at the CN Centre, or go online to www.ticketsnorth.ca.
