Cougars Set to Welcome Back the 'White Out' for Games 3 and 4 at the CN Centre
March 30, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, B.C. - Games 1 and 2 of the Prince George Cougars opening round quarter-final playoff series with the Victoria Royals certainly lived up to the hype! 16 members of the Prince George Cougars made their WHL playoff debuts last weekend, and to their credit they didn't look the least bit out of place. They competed hard against the veteran-laden Royals and went nose-to-nose with a team with over 300 combined games of WHL playoff experience. Despite being down 2-0 in the series, the Cougars are coming home confident knowing that WHL playoff hockey is back in Prince George, and our fans are not about to make this an easy week for the visitors from Victoria.
Game 3 will be played Wednesday, April 1st at 7:00 PM and Game 4 goes the next night (Thursday) also at 7:00 PM at the CN Centre.
"With only 4 home playoff games over the past 8 years, our City has been starved of the opportunity to experience the electric, thrilling and fun atmosphere of the CN Centre filled with rowdy fans," said Prince George Cougars Vice President of Business, Andy Beesley. "We've decided to bring back the "white out", and we're encouraging all fans to wear white jerseys or shirts. The white-out is not only fun, but it shows an amazing solidarity and support to our players."
Limited edition Prince George Cougars white playoff shirts will also be for sale on site for an amazingly low prize of $5. You will be amazed at what a huge 'Sea of White' can do to the mood of the players who are looking forward to holding serve at home against Victoria.
Friday night in Victoria the Prince George Cougars grabbed a quick 2-0 lead thanks to power play goals from Tate Olson and Chase Witala. The Victoria Royals responded with four unanswered goals in the second period, but barely managed to hang onto victory as the Cougars came back with a spirited comeback effort in the third period. Kody McDonald helped push the game back within a goal, and Coleman Vollrath made some big stops in the final minutes to keep the Royals ahead. The Cougars power play went three-for-four and they killed off all three of their minor penalties.
Saturday night the Cougars trailed 2-0, 3-1 and 4-3, but they stuck with it, and managed to skate into the final five minutes of the third period tied 4-4 thanks to two more power play goals from Tate Olson, and singles from Chase Witala and Zach Pochiro. Brandon Magee had the game's clinching goal for Victoria with just over four minutes left in the third to help secure the 2-0 series lead for Victoria.
Beesley adds, "I wouldn't let the 2-0 series deficit fool you, as our team has complete confidence and belief in their abilities and chances to win this series. Two straight victories on home ice this Wednesday and Thursday are a legitimate possibility, and with the passionate support from our fans, the x-factor from an incredible atmosphere in the CN Centre could make all the difference for our team."
