$8,400 Raised for Goals for Kids

Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that over $8,000 was raised during the 2014-15 Western Hockey League season for the Westman Dreams for Kids "Goals for Kids" Campaign.

The Wheat Kings, who currently lead the defending Memorial Cup Champion Edmonton Oil Kings two games to one in the WHL Eastern Conference Quarter Final scored a league leading 340 goals this past season, helping to generate a total of $8,400 for the Foundation.

The Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation was formed in 1991 to help make dreams come true for western Manitoba children suffering from life threatening diseases.

"Goals for Kids" was established the following year and has raised close to $350,000 since that time.

The Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation is a non-profit, local registered organization dedicated to granting dreams to seriously ill children throughout western Manitoba.

The Wheat Kings' Goals for Kids program has enabled Westman Dream s for Kids to grant over ninety dreams to local children.

As in past years, several local businesses served as corporate sponsors this year. Each time, the Wheat Kings scored a goal or Brandon recorded a shutout, these sponsors would donate at least $25 to the Foundation.

Among the local businesses participating in this year's program were Advance Auto Body, Al Rosendaal of Investors Group, Mobile One Marine, Brandon Maintenance Services/Wheat City Electric, Brandon Source for Sports, C & C Rentals, Crocus Credit Union, Dr. Brian Kiliwnik, Emco Waterworks, Forbidden Flavours, Got Mats?, Jason Krieser of the Keystone Centre, J & G Homes, Kuiper's Family Bakery, Morningstar Metal, NAPA Traction Brandon, Paterson Patterson Wyman, Roy Johnston TDS, The 40, Total Eye Care, Total Farm Supply and George Sheard of McDonalds.

Veteran center Tim McGauley scored a career high 42 goals to lead the Wheat Kings this season, generating $1,050, followed by Rihards Bukarts (33 goals/$825), Jayce Hawryluk (30 goals/$750), rookie Nolan Patrick (30 goals/$750) and captain Peter Quenneville (27 goals/$810).

In all, thirteen Wheat Kings hit double-digits in goals this season.

The others were Morgan Klimchuk (20) in Brandon and 34 overall), Ivan Provorov (15), Ryan Pilon (11), Reid Duke (20), John Quenneville (17), Braylon Shmyr (18), Tyler Coulter (16) and Duncan Campbell (12).
