Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL – The Kane County Cougars were silenced on a two hit shutout by the South Bend Silver Hawks in a 2 – 0 loss on Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars had the tying run come to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning but an infield pop out ended the game as Kane County has lost three straight at home.

The Cougars (28 – 19) fell behind early for the fourth straight game, as the Hawks scored first. The Silver Hawks scored one run in the top of the second and added another in the top of the fourth to take a 2 – 0 lead.

South Bend (31 – 17) starting pitcher Matt Chico kept the Cougars off balance all night tossing a complete game shutout. The left-hander had his best day as a pro allowing only two hits and just one walk. The last time the Cougars were shutout was a 3 – 0 loss at Dayton on May 5th. It marked the second time this year that the Cougars only garnished two hits, the last time that happened was in a 7 – 2 loss on April 23rd at Peoria. On the clock, it was the fastest game of the year for a nine inning game lasting just 2:04.

Trent Peterson was saddled with the loss giving up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three in 5.2 innings to see his record fall to 0 - 2. The Cougars did have some positives in the loss as Jose Corchado came in relief of Peterson and retired all ten hitters he faced in order. The right-hander was activated from the disabled list earlier in the day after being out the previous 17 days with soreness in his pitching shoulder. Brian Snyder also continued his streak of reaching base safely with a walk to push the streak to 20 games.

The Midwest Leagues two division leaders will play game two of the four game series as Kane County pitcher Jared Trout will look for his second straight win. The Silver Hawks will counter with right-hander Chris Kinsey in the 6:00 p.m. game.
